Levo II for Decarboxylation and Infusing
Show Notes and Transcript
Mary:
Hey everyone. Welcome back to the Educated Edibilista. And our last video we decarbed by hand with an air fryer because we’re older women. That’s what we do.
Jane:
And air fryers are freaking awesome. So you don’t have one get on the bus. Yeah.
Mary:
But today we’re going to actually try the Levo, which decarbs for you and doesn’t smell up your house supposedly. So we’re going to find out, not only does it decarb, but it will actually infuse as well. So we did our drink last time, today we’re going to do our first, well, we’re going to prepare for our first recipe. You will actually do the recipe in the next video, but we’re going to go through the whole math calculations. We’re probably going to fuck that up. Be warned now.
Jane:
Yes. Disclaimer. We are not mathematicians.
Mary:
No. And this is literally guys, we’re doing this the first time. Like we’ve not used this before, so who knows?
Jane:
Fingers, eyes, toes, all crossed.
Mary:
Here we go. So how does this work? What are we doing here?
Jane:
So we took our already dried herbs, and we ground them up using just a coffee grinder. So I would probably…
Mary:
We’re very low tech here.
Jane:
Yes, very low tech. If you are going to use a coffee grinder that you actually use for coffee, you’re probably going to want to make sure you clean that out before you use it again. If you don’t mind, that’s a whole another thing. So we’re going to put our ground herbs into our little Levo pod, very carefully. Right.
Mary:
I feel like I’m going to spill it.
Jane:
Turn it this way.
Mary:
There we go. Maybe.
Jane:
See we’re smart.
Mary:
It takes a little a while, but I’ll get it. It actually seems like it’s a lot more now as I’m pushing it in.
Jane:
Agreed.
Mary:
I felt like it didn’t seem like it was a lot once it was ground up. So this is three and a half grams, which is basically kind of the smallest amount that you can get unless you just buy a pre-roll I guess. So if you’re wondering how much things come in a package, all that stuff.
Jane:
This seems to be a standard.
Mary:
Yeah. And this is literally…
Jane:
Nice.
Mary:
My makeup tool to put on a mask. So we’re just using household stuff.
Jane:
Yes. We’re using what we have on hand.
Mary:
You don’t have to go out and buy a whole bunch of stuff. The Levo, obviously, if you want that, you do have to go get that and we’ll have a link for you guys.
Jane:
Yes. But I mean, it looks really nice on your counter. Like someone just coming into your house, isn’t going to be like, oh, what do you…
Mary:
Yeah they’ll have no idea.
Jane:
Like they’re not going to know it’s your weed machine necessarily. Unless you want to tell them, and you know in which case. Okay we’re closing up our little Levo pod and it’s going into the machine. It says place pod here, so that’s a no brainer. Okay, we’re closing it. And we’re going to choose the activate cycle. And it’s going to do this for 30 minutes at 240 degrees. So here we go. We’re going to press start.
Mary:
So we talked about decarb on our last video, you can go back to that. So this is literally going to do the work for us. So we’re going to let it do this. And then we’ll be back on for the infusion when that’s done and show you that part. So snap our fingers and show the next one. We;re back, the Levo is done. It did about 5 to 10 minute warmup and then decarb for 30 minutes. Didn’t have to touch it and there’s no smell.
Jane:
Woo.
Mary:
Okay. So next step, Jane?
Jane:
We’re going to open it up and because of course it did get hot. We’re going to use some oven mitts.
Mary:
It’s not hot on the outside, so that’s nice.
Jane:
Safety first. All right. So we are now going to add our butter.
Mary:
And we’re using a vegan butter.
Jane:
We are.
Mary:
So you going to use butters, oils.
Jane:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Mary:
Can you do it with the alcohol in here?
Jane:
That I don’t know. That’ll be something for us to research. Yeah.
Mary:
Literally just plop it in.
Jane:
Plop. Literally, literally plop it in. And this is eight ounces of butter by the way. Pop yeah.
Mary:
And we plan to make a banana bread. Yes we had to check on that one twice. We’re going to make a banana bread with the infusion on the next episode.
Jane:
Oh crap. I forgot to put the thing in.
Mary:
Okay.
Jane:
Okay… There it went into place. Okay. Now. Take two. The butter is going back in.
Mary:
So there’s a little, basically the little stir thing is magnetic, and you got to put it back in there.
Jane:
Nice.
Mary:
Scrape all this good butter off.
Jane:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Mary:
Real life guys.
Jane:
Yep.
Mary:
From people who don’t cook.
Jane:
IRL, this is what could happen to you, but it’s okay. No Mary’s or Jane’s have been hurt in the making of this butter.
Mary:
Alrighty.
Jane:
Okay. So we’re ready to close it up. We are now going to select our infuse cycle and it’s going to go for two hours at 150 degrees. So we need to place.
Mary:
Two hours.
Jane:
Yeah, so you’re going to want to make sure you have other things to do you not just like, sit around, wait for this. We need a place a container under it. Obviously.
Mary:
Oh to catch it.
Jane:
To catch it, because that would be bad if we did not.
Mary:
This is why I’m not in charge of this.
Jane:
So we just got an empty jelly jar here. We’re just putting that under the spout and press the button. Ready to go. Warming up. I don’t know how long it’s going to take to warm up since it was already warm.
Mary:
Warm. Yeah.
Jane:
We’ll see. But once it’s warmed up sufficiently and ready to go, it’ll just start and you’ll see a little like countdown timer bar, telling you the progress.
Mary:
There we go.
Jane:
And yeah, come back in two hours and ta-da.
Mary:
We’ll see how it looks like. Okay guys.
Jane:
Here we go.
Mary:
Here we go. Ready?
Mary:
Levo is done, the infusion. So it literally says infusing complete. So we have our jar under here and we’re just going to watch it come out now and see how everything went. So here we go. Hopefully it’s under there. Okay. Perfect. Look at that, oh my gosh. Got some little butter chunks it looks like. How easy was that? And literally no smell. Game changer. If you think that you’re going to making a lot of edibles, highly recommend the Levo, so there you go. And that’s that whole process.
Mary:
Okay. So you guys, I’m pouring it out. And results.
Jane:
Isn’t it lovely?
Mary:
What’s it smell like? You can’t really smell it. It’s not very strong.
Jane:
It smells kind of toasty.
Mary:
Yeah, toast.
Jane:
Yeah. It’s a very warm and cozy. It’s an appealing smell to me.
Mary:
Yeah. Definitely kind of bready.
Jane:
Yes. That’s a good way to describe which will be perfect for our banana bread.
Mary:
Yeah.
Jane:
So we are curious to see if this is going to solidify again, when we put it back in the fridge, which we expect it will, but right now it’s still quite liquid.
Mary:
Yeah. So we’ll see what happens.
Jane:
Yeah. We’ll see what happens. Big experiment.
Mary:
You’ve seen us fuck up. So let’s see. And we’ll go over the maths too, for how much we’ll use in the banana bread recipe and all of that and what we think each slice will be. And then we’ll taste test.
Jane:
And even if for some reason, this wouldn’t solidify again, which I can’t imagine it wouldn’t. It’s still going to work in the recipe.
Mary:
Yeah.
Jane:
Yeah, [crosstalk 00:08:55] it anyway. Yeah.
Mary:
Yeah. So I wonder if a difference, because of the vegan butter.
Jane:
That’s a good question.
Mary:
Yeah, it does it differently.
Jane:
Yeah.
Mary:
If anyone knows, if you’ve tried both, we’ll try regular butter at some point as well.
Jane:
Yes and coconut oil as well.
Mary:
And coconut oil. Yeah. I definitely want to try, which is probably what I would use in place of butter. Well, I mean, I love [inaudible 00:09:14] don’t get me wrong.
Jane:
I love cooking on oil too. I’ll eat that right off spoon, which I know might be a little weird, but you know, just putting it all out there.
Mary:
Okay guys. Well, thanks for joining us and we’ll be back with the recipe next time.
Jane:
Woo.
Mary:
And more videos.
Jane:
Super excited to bake.
Mary:
Yeah, so we will see you then.
Jane:
Bye.
